This one-day traditional stained glass workshop takes place in Martin’s studio at the Learning Centre at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet in Sheffield.
The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced students, and is limited to a maximum of eight participants so that everyone receives plenty of individual guidance.
Each student has their own workbench and use of all the tools and equipment needed throughout the day. All patterns and materials, including glass and solder, are provided at no extra cost.
What will I make on the workshop?

You will create a traditional stained glass window hanging to take home. There will be a selection of patterns to choose from (see examples above), and each finished piece measures approximately 17cm x 17cm or 20cm x 12cm.
What will I learn on the workshop?
During the day, you will learn the basic techniques needed to make a traditional leaded stained glass window hanging, including:
- Scoring and breaking glass to fit a pattern
- Selecting suitable glass
- Glass grinding
- Lead cutting
- Soldering
- Attaching support rings
- Finishing your piece
Please note
- Reading glasses are recommended for close work
- Please wear sensible shoes (no open-toed shoes)
- Old clothes are recommended
